iPhone LiveSpeakR concept announced by young inventor

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

D&G Solutions has announced the LiveSpeakR. It’s a new portable speaker system design for the Apple iPhone. The LiveSpeakR has 2 sets of shielded drivers that fold-up and store behind the iPhone during travel, and can also expand, contract, and rotate in order to accommodate both portrait and landscape modes. A built-in stand holds the speakers at different viewing angles, and the LiveSpeakR can run off 2 AAA batteries or an AC adapter. 23-year-old Erik Groset, inventor of the LiveSpeakR, said, “I’m very proud of the LiveSpeakR I believe it could be a perfect accessory for everyone’s iPhone. I invented it from the perspective of the end-user and everything they would want in a speaker-system.” D&G Solutions is currently seeking a partner to license the product for production; Groset said the LiveSpeakR could be available as soon as summer 2008.

iPhone jailbreak software update released

Friday, January 25th, 2008

A software-based jailbreak update for iPhone has been released. Jailbreaking an iPhone makes it possible for unathorized, third-party applications to be installed on the iPhone. This new jailbreak requires that the user have a previously-jailbroken iPhone running software with Installer.app installed and a Windows computer. According to reports, unlocked phones appear to remain unlocked following the jailbreak/update; however, this new jailbreak method will not unlock an iPhone — it will only update a previously jailbroken unit.

Thai Cellphone in talks with Apple on iPhone launch

Monday, January 21st, 2008

“We are negotiating on details, including a revenue sharing standard. Apple needs a local operator to promote iPhone,” Prattana Leelapanang, assistant vice president for AIS’s wireless business marketing, told Reuters.

He gave no details of when the talks would be completed.

iPhone, which combines Apple’s iPod music player, a video player and a Web browser, is now sold in the United States and Europe, and Apple plans to launch it in Asia this year.

Last week, Apple and China Mobile, the world’s largest cellular operator, terminated talks to launch iPhone, one of the hottest gadgets to hit U.S. and European stores in 2007.

Apart from China, Apple had also initiated talks with NTT DoCoMo Inc and Softbank Corp to bring its multimedia device to Japan, although sources at both firms said revenue-sharing was a hotly contested issue.

AIS, 21.4 percent owned by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, also signed a contract with state-owned fixed line operator TOT to develop their networks jointly in a bid to cut costs, AIS president Wichian Mektrakarn told reporters.

iPhone’s is buzzing up eBay to the tune of $18K

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

It’s been nearly two months since Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that
“Apple is going to reinvent the phone,” and already eBay sales are
bringing in more profits than Apple itself.

Although the phones
are not scheduled to be available until June of this year, iPhone sales
on eBay have totaled more than $18,000 within the past month, according
to research conducted by HammerTap.

What’s selling? Buzz. $18,000 worth of buzz.

“People
are so excited about new and innovative product releases like the
iPhone that sellers find any way they can to make a profit off that
excitement,” says Jen Cano, spokesperson for HammerTap. “And according
to the research, anything iPhone related sells for an average of $35.”

Ranging
from domain names and e-mail addresses to T-shirts and pictures,
sellers are making an auction out of anything they can get their hands
on. For example, the domain name “www.iphoneforcheap.com” had 11 bids
and sold for $41.

“Whatever is selling now is just a glimpse of
what is to come,” says Cano. “Some sellers will make a lot of money on
iPhone accessories after the phone is released.”

AT&T executive shows off iPhone at CTIA

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

This almost counts as alarming … when AT&T COO Randall L.
Stephenson held up an Apple iPhone, due to be distributed this June
with Cingular AT&T as the exclusive carrier, he joked that it would
be a test of the user interface because it was the first time he’s held
one. That’s right—three months after the public disclosure of the
relationship with Apple and three months away from what is already the
carrier’s most intensely covered product launch, the COO of the parent
company is just holding one for the first time. Perhaps as telling, he
didn’t actually demo the phone; the brief look at what iPhone can do
was canned video.

Four Reasons To Be Bullish On Apple’s iPhone

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Goldman Sachs is positive on Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) after a recent handset branding survey conducted in the US, UK, China, and India. Even with the survey having taken place prior to the announcement of iPhone, there are four key positive takeaways for Apple:

1) The number of potential iPhone buyers is equivalent to 75% of the installed base of current iPod owners, with just under 1/2 of the potential buyers coming from respondents who have never owned an iPod.

2) Similarly, in the US, 71% of respondents indicated interest in a potential Apple mobile phone.

3) In the US, Apple ranked as the number 4 most desired multimedia handset brand - again, coming before iPhone was even announced.

4) Some of the concerns about the unwillingness of consumers to switch carriers to get the handset they want seem misplaced, with 30% of UK respondents and 15% in the US suggesting that they would switch. Goldman
